You Are Hurting More Than Just Yourself

One thing that my parents always told me growing up was that you never know who is watching so always be justified in your actions. When it comes to smoking, even though it is a singular habit, you are hurting others without even knowing it. In 2018 it was shown that 34.2 million people smoke regularly in the United States alone. The secondhand smoke from those who use, contributes to and plays a part in a staggering 41,000 deaths each year, ranging from heart disease to lung failure. This is not something that should be taken lightly. Babies in particular are at the most risk of secondhand smoke. Thousands of infants under 18 months of age are hospitalized each and every year and roughly 340 die from SIDs (sudden infant death syndrome). Next time you go to have a smoke, think about what you are doing to others and to those who are too helpless to defend themselves, such as babies. Next time you go to have a smoke, think about your family and those in your life who love you. Smoking is going to rip you away from them faster than you were intended to go. On an average, this is about ten years taken off of your life. Every time you smoke, you inflict just as much, if not more, pain and suffering on those around you, as you do to yourself.

Hey my name is Matthew Henriques, I’m a 4th year kinesiology major aspiring to become a PT and if all goes well in the future I’ll be able to fix that shoulder that has been bugging you for a while and your car at the same time. While I’m studying in the field of medicine now, my upbringing was working out on family ranches and fixing cars and tractors. Pretty soon I’ll be applying to PT school and plan on making a career in that. Having had a range of jobs from all ends of the spectrum, I feel I am very well rounded, work well with others, can read and communicate well with others which is a big part of the job. I embrace the challenges at hand and don’t run away from them. What separates me from the rest is my background and all the jobs I have had. I’m am very well rounded and never have had a problem connecting with people. In the next 5 to 6 years I wish to have been in my career as a PT and start a family living in a house with some land so I can also have a little ranch to run on the side to keep me connected with my upbringing.
